Texas Saltwater Fishing Permits For Port Arthur Charters

Preparing for your day on the water with Sabine Lake Charters, LLC is straightforward, but ensuring you have the correct documentation is essential for a stress-free experience. Because Sabine Lake acts as a border between Texas and Louisiana, understanding the specific regulations for the Port Arthur region will help you stay compliant while targeting Redfish, Trout, and Flounder.

Who Needs a Fishing License?

In Texas, a valid fishing license is required for any person who takes or attempts to take fish, mussels, or other aquatic life in public waters. This applies to both residents and non-residents. If you are joining Captain Sidney Shetley for a guided charter, you must have your license secured before our 7 AM departure.

  • Youth Exemption: Both resident and non-resident youth under the age of 17 do not need a fishing license.
  • Senior Exemption (Texas Residents): If you were born before January 1, 1931, you are exempt from license requirements.
  • Border Water Agreement: Thanks to a reciprocal agreement, properly licensed residents of either Texas or Louisiana (or those exempt by age) may fish in any portion of Sabine Lake without purchasing a second license from the neighboring state.

Saltwater vs. Freshwater Rules

Since the primary "hot spots" for our charters involve the brackish and salty waters of Sabine Lake and the Port Arthur Ship Channel, a Saltwater Endorsement is required.

  • Saltwater Package: Includes your license and the saltwater endorsement (necessary for our trips).
  • All-Water Package: If you plan on fishing in both fresh and salt waters during your visit to Texas, this package covers all public waters in the state.

2026 License Pricing

Since you can't use a table, here is the information formatted as a clear, scannable list. This will be much easier to paste into a standard text block on your website:

Texas Fishing License Pricing

  • Annual Saltwater Package
  • Texas Resident: $35
  • Non-Resident: $63
  • Annual All-Water Package
  • Texas Resident: $40
  • Non-Resident: $68
  • Senior Saltwater (Age 65+)
  • Texas Resident: $17
  • Non-Resident: N/A
  • One-Day All-Water License
  • Texas Resident: $11
  • Non-Resident: $16

Note: A one-day license is a great, affordable option if you are only visiting for a single outing.

Where to Purchase Your License

Getting licensed is quick and can be done entirely from your smartphone or at several local retailers in Port Arthur, TX.

  1. Online: Visit the Texas Parks and Wildlife (TPWD) website to purchase and receive an immediate digital copy.
  2. In-Person: Licenses are available at most sporting goods stores, local bait shops, and large retailers like Walmart or Academy Sports + Outdoors.
  3. Digital Copy: You are not required to have a paper copy; a clear photo or digital image of your license on your phone is sufficient for a game warden's request.

By securing your license ahead of time, you ensure that our focus remains entirely on the fishing once you step aboard the 25' Skeeter. If you have any questions regarding which specific endorsement you need for our upcoming trip, feel free to ask!
